Why We’ll Never Get Over the Hollywood RomComs of the Early 2000's
As a millennial in my late twenties, I often find myself curled up with a pizza watching RomComs from the 2000s that I’ve probably seen a million times already. There’s something about these films — The Devil Wears Prada, Love Actually, Notting Hill, 10 Things I Hate About You, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Princess Diaries, Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia!…they’re not just movies, they’re a time capsule of an era where love, humour and heartfelt moments intertwined in a way that just doesn’t seem to happen anymore.
I recently watched Hit Man and Anything But You, two of the latest entries in the RomCom genre. No offence to Glen Powell but something just doesn’t click — they’re fun, sure, but they’re not films I’ll go back to over and over again. They lack that magic that made the 2000’s romcoms so unforgettable — and my Gen Z colleagues born in the 2000’s with their own “Roman Empire” RomComs from that era, seem to agree!
So, what makes the 2000s RomComs so special?
