Why Jack (Of All Trades) Is Never Bored

He might be the master of none, but Jack had the gift of foresight and chose to diversify his interests.

We’ve all heard the infamous proverb, but it’s about time we perceived it differently. Gone are the days when you needed to master one particular subject or field to be deemed successful. We live in an era of “Fitness Instructor/ Musician/ Philosophy Enthusiast” and “Doctor/ Wellness Blogger/ Photographer” and so on. The choices and combinations are endless really.

What’s more, today you are more than your career choice; you are a summation of your interests.

“Accomplished is he who…”

The word “accomplished” now has a new and rather subjective meaning. For instance, Matt is a consultant at a reputed firm and is one of the best in his team, earning significantly more than the average 25 year old. After a 12-hour long work day, 6 days a week, Matt comes home, watches TV and calls it a night. Then there’s Jack — a fairly good copywriter in advertising, hits the gym after an 8-hour long work day, writes website content part-time for a startup and learns software coding online before calling it a night. And he takes guitar lessons for kids on the weekend!

Maybe a few years ago you could say Matt was more “accomplished”. But today, we’re beyond comparison. Jack possesses various interests and has three different income streams, two of them having stemmed from hobbies he enjoys…
